What Is Filler Dissolving?
Filler dissolving uses hyaluronidase, an enzyme that targets and breaks down hyaluronic acid (HA), the substance most modern dermal fillers are made from. Once injected, hyaluronidase helps your body naturally metabolize and clear the filler material from the treated area. It’s a well-established tool in medical aesthetics, used by injectors to correct, soften, or fully reverse previous filler results.
An Important Note on Filler Types
Hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid-based fillers, which make up the majority of fillers used today (including most lip and cheek fillers). It does not dissolve non-HA fillers, such as those made with calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, or silicone. If you’re not sure what type of filler you previously received, we can talk through it together during your consultation.
Common Reasons Clients Choose This Treatment
There are many reasons someone might seek filler dissolving, and none of them require an explanation. Some of the most common include filler migration (when product shifts from its original placement), asymmetry, overfilled or lumpy results, results from a treatment done elsewhere that didn’t turn out as expected, or simply a change of heart about a look that no longer feels like you. Whatever the reason, this is a completely normal and increasingly common step in a lot of people’s filler journeys – not a last resort.
What to Expect
During your visit, we’ll assess the area, discuss your goals, and determine how much hyaluronidase is needed. The injection itself is quick, typically well tolerated, and requires no downtime beyond the treatment window. Most people return to their regular activities the same day. Depending on how much filler is present and how it has settled, some clients see the full effect after a single session, while others may benefit from a follow-up appointment for a more complete or even result.
A Legitimate Medical Tool
Beyond cosmetic correction, hyaluronidase is also used in clinical settings to manage rare but serious filler complications, such as vascular occlusion, underscoring that this is a well-studied, medically grounded treatment rather than simply a cosmetic reversal.
